LOVE & HATE at the Same Time

We still get letters and e-mails stating they either love or hate us and believe it or not, we are glad to get both kinds of mail. Free Speech is what we believe in and are very happy that people feel the need to express their opinions to us. Keep your letters and comments coming, Pro and Con so we know what the real pulse of our readership is. Our goal is to inform and to entertain, on the surface it all sounds simple, and at one time it was much easier. Today however, it is complex due to the new factor of Political Correctness and how many people have choose to stand on one side of the fence or the other. On how people feel about issues tends to upset them about how other people feel, if it is different then them. This is so sad and makes humor, to almost always make somebody effected, one way or the other. I have always known that you can never expect to please all the people, all the time. In these troubled times, it seems more like, it is way to easy to offend people and that only their opinion counts.

If you don't like what a movie looks like it will be like, then don't go to it. If you don't like what you hear or see on TV and Radio, change the channel and if you think our magazine is no good and that it offends you, then by all means please stop buying it.

Here are a couple of the latest items to arrive in my e-mail box and like I said at the beginning I am glad to receive both of them and present them as they are, unedited . . .

I''M MAD---YOU MIGHT SAY VERY DAMNED PISSED OFF!!! AFTER READING YOUR COMMENTS AND THE SEVERAL LETTERS YOU QUOTE, MY FIRST FEELING WAS DISAPPOINTMENT. I LOOKED FORWARD EACH ISSUE FOR THE COMMENTARIES WHICH WILE LEANING TO THE RIGHT, WERE VERY OFTEN PATRIOTIC,--WHAT"S WRONG WITH THAT??? NOW I"M EVEN MADDER. IF YOU ARE SO WEAK-KNEED AS TO CAVE IN TO BE P.C. YOU SURE LOSE THE AURA OF BEING A BIT ON THE COMMON-REDNECK TYPE OF PUBLICATION. IT"S OBVIOUS THAT THE LETTERS WERE FROM CLOSED MINDED, ANTI-FREE ENTERPRISE, DEMOCRAT ZOMBIES WHOSE SOURCE OF INFORMATION IS DEMOCRAT SOUND BITES, WHICH ALLOWS THEM TO NOT HAVE TO THINK FOR THEMSELVES. DO YOU SUPPOSE IF WE GET A FEW LETTER WRITERS TO SAY THAT WE"RE TIRED OF THE SUBMARINE ARTICLES, AND WAY TOO MANY PAGES ABOUT MOTORCYCLES, THAT YOU WILL LISTEN AND TAKE SOME ACTION. ONCE AGAIN THE SILENT MAJORITY LOSES, AS I BET MOST PEOPLE ENJOYED THE "ROAST", AND FELT NO NEED TO WRITE. BUD HICKS.

Dear Capt'n and Crew,
I'm writing from the shores of the Atlantic Ocean in Gloucester, Mass. I totally love your magazine, everything from the hurt yourself funny articles (the Tree stump Episode hurt me this month twice: once when I read it, and the second time when I read it to my explosive loving husband), to the historical and educational, right down to the quotes in the margins. Keep up the good work. Sorry that anyone is hassling you about the content, it is good clean fun all around. Dare I say, I am more excited to see your magazine arrive than MAD magazine. I know it is a YUper magazine as there is no rush to get through a story. We have all winter.........
I recently had to send your magazine back to the UP and here is how: My parents grew up in Da UP and dad retired to his home town. My sister was visiting last fall and bought me a subscription to your magazine for Christmas. (BEST GIFT OF 2009!!!) I was talking to dad on the phone and told him how much fun I am having reading UP mag and he said, "the WHAT?" So, I mailed him my carefully preserved copies from the last 3 months. It cost $7.07 to mail the UP Magazine back to the UP. If he likes it, and there is a 50/50 chance as he has no sense of humor, we'll give him his own subscription.
Keep it coming. I don't know how you are able to handle that much content in your cycle. KUDOS, I'm sure impressed.
If you are ever in the Massachusetts area, please stop in. Our summer sport here is whale watching. (or deep sea fishing if that doesn't make your stomach churn.)
Sincerely,
Sandy Sabo
